Sophie's Raku Studs
One of the earrings in this pair was brushed by a handful of pine needles in the Raku process and it stuck. The other earring is almost mirror-like. This pair is unique in its asymmetrical match-up.
This is a pair of stud earrings that cannot be replicated. These studs endured the Japanese firing process called Raku.
In a short period of time, the ceramic pieces are heated, removed from the kiln quickly, and let to cool under a metal barrel with a mixture of natural elements including pine needles, dead leaves, and newspaper clippings. Once cooled, I get to see what jewelry pieces survived the process.
Each pair of the Raku earrings are intentionally and imperfectly matched with a copper penny glaze shimmering on the top. The Raku studs are simple, but eye-catching when they catch the sunlight.
*Handmade and hand-painted ceramic earrings made with sterling silver and gold plated sterling silver. One-of-a-kind Raku clay earrings fired in Oklahoma City.
